The Old Mill Oil on Canvas Vincent van Gogh Albright Knox Art Gallery, New York |
Utilizing Strong Elements of Oil Paints: The artists, especially the
painters are the creators in their own way; while standing before their
canvases, they feel like the masters of their inner and emotional worlds.
Before putting his or her first brush on a canvas, an artist does conceive a colourful
and meaningful idea in head and heart. Then these artists recreate the whole
image on canvas or paper with the help of their artistic skill.
While doing this they invest the sensitiveness they own in their heart. That plays a pivotal role. While doing their work the artists mostly rely on the forms. With colours and brushes, the master painters create several sets of forms on canvass or on paper.
Thus an artist conceives and recreates what he or she has seen within the
perspectives of the eyes. And then these perspectives are being transferred
onto the canvas. The styles of the painting may be different from one another.
It could be an impressionist style of painting, realistic style or simple
portrait making. The purpose of the artists is to let the eyes of the viewers
enjoy and understand the art. In the above painting, the master British
Painter, John Godward, has shown his artistic prowess at best.

The Artist in His Studio 1626- 28 Rembrandt Oil on Panel Museum of Fine Art, Boston |
Let us see how Master artists use Oil Colours. The self-portrait is a favourite subject of the art of painting.
It is now more than 340 years since Rembrandt has left this world. But the fact
is that he hovers over the sky of the art world. such valuable is his
collection of paintings, such powerful was his skill.
The Portrait: This painting is titled Artists in His Studio, showing
Rembrandt himself standing at a distance from his painting. Starting from the
bright colour area of the floor; our eyes move from the frame of the painting to
the artist. The relative sizes of the painting and Rembrandt’s figure radiate
one message like most of the paintings done by the master artists do. Here the
message is that the art is always bigger than the artists.
The Artist: When Rembrandt's colour-loaded brush would run on a canvas mounted
on his easel, it would always keep speaking. It would try singing a song along
with the rhythm of the colours he used. Rembrandt was known for making a
compassionate leap of imagination in showing the thoughtful privacy of the
models. Here he himself was the model. The paintings perhaps were completed, as
there is no evidence of the process of painting going on, like colours, plates,
brushes and other materials lying around. He might be intending to have a touch
here and there, as he held only a brush in his hand. The gesture of having only
a brush in hand and not the palette shows that the painting must be completed
before a week or so or not before long. The contended facial view of the
painter, too, indicates that he did not intend much working.
The Art: The master of lighting and shades had depicted the light coming from
the invisible window. The viewer would feel that he or she is standing just
outside of the window and looking at the whole scene. In the painting, the
opposite wall, too, is lighted by the reflected glow of the light falling in
the middle of the floor. The whole painting is bathed in a light colour, except
the hat Rembrandt was wearing. Let us see an example of a modern painter who used oil colours.
Stanley Spencer: Born in 1891 (and died in 1959), Stanley Spencer, is one of the legendary names in the modern art-world. His birthplace, at Cookham on the River Thames, would become the subjects of his numerous paintings. Being an artist, and a normal eccentric by default, he had resigned from his port in the Royal Academy, due to the controversy his some of the paintings had created.
One of the most original artists of the modern age, Sir Stanley Spencer had painted the beauty of forms and the tension in sexuality in his paintings. Stanley’s paintings have special characteristics; we have to understand the story behind every painting, the story that had given the idea to paint a particular painting and under which environment that was painted. He would use special compositional forms to express his very feelings he went through while being in the scene within which he did his job.
The painting given below, Village Gossip' is believed to be done in July 1939. It was an occasion when the artist Stanley Spencer had gone on a painting holiday at Leonard Stanley in the Gloucestershire area. This is one of the scrapbooks of drawings that he intended for recording the key moments in his life.

New Color: Van Gogh H2Oil H2Oil Paint, Van
Gogh H2Oil Paint, Art Materials, Prices of Art Materials.
Oil Paint is a medium that hardly has any near alternative.
But while using these colours we face certain odds. Most of the artists finding
it challenging to cope up with the smell of turpentine. Those artists who work
at home face the smell as offensive to all other family members who live with
the artist. While the students who work in a group at school or art classes
have to arrange proper ventilation for eliminating the effects of the heavy
odour the turpentine releases into the atmosphere.

THE COLOR WHEEL: He was the man
Sir Issac Newton laid the foundation of the colour wheel. he had worked on
this colourful subject since 1666. After Newton many variations of shades of
the colours been developed. The figure that is known as a colour wheel is a
diagram representing various colours of the visible solar spectrum. There are
six basic colours in the wheel: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet.
Van Gogh H2Oil: The invention of a paint-like Van Gogh
H2Oil is like a blessing to the artists who use oil paint. This water-mixable
colour is now available in the market. H2Oil colour can be mixed with water and
can be used easily as other oil paints. The price of art material goes higher
with the general prices of the other art materials and consumer products. But
the H2Oil paint is not priced abnormally. One can have it at many stores that
deal in the art materials and would get it at a cheaper price.
Using the Van Gogh H2Oil: The above painting is done by
using the Van Gogh H2Oil paint. This paint is available almost in every shade.
Most of the dealers who sell artists grade paints, keep this paint in their
stores. By mixing the white Titanium we can have the required saturation in Van
Gogh H2Oil. The artists can use these colours on all types of surfaces like
Canvass, board and other materials. The Van Gogh H2Oil paint is very versatile.
It would be getting more and more acceptability among the artists and the art
lovers
ACRYLIC: Painting with Cool and Bright Colors: In
recent time the Acrylic paint has acquired mind-blowing popularity. The
artist-grade acrylic paints have become a favourite medium among the leading
artist in the world.
What is Acrylic Paints?: The substance that works as a
binder in this type of paint is an acrylic polymer; it dries up as quickly as
the artists use it. Once the acrylic colour dries on the paper, the paint
becomes water-resistant. Amazingly versatile and very easy to use for armature
painters and artists: these are the attracting qualities of acrylic paint.
Qualities of Acrylic colours: The
artists using watercolours and oil paints do their best to get the best out of
the colours. But acrylic colours possess special qualities the artists need.
Its flexibility is unmatched, and its appearance is as good as oil and
watercolours. Artists can create any desirable texture by using these media, as
acrylics have the ability to be used on different surfaces.
In other colours like watercolour and oil colours, the
artists have such facilities; but the range of acrylic mediums is much greater.
The acrylic paints can be overlaid on many different surfaces, and these paints
can be used to adjust their binding characteristics. The acrylic paints are
used to build thick layers of paint, too.
How to Use Acrylics: Acrylic paints may be thinned with
water and used as washes in the same manner as we use the watercolour. But care
should be taken, as the acrylic paints can be made wet even if they are dried
on the medium. While adding water to thin the acrylic paints, the artists
should remember that if more than twenty-five per cent to thirty per cent of
water is used, it would not help to form a stable paint film.
Why Oil Paint Users Prefer Acrylic?: The single biggest
advantage of using acrylic paints is its drying time. If you use oil paints,
while applying an additional layer you will have to wait for the drying of the
paints already applied. The oil colours take a longer time to be blended on the
surface. So it would delay the finishing of a painting. Oil colours have their
advantages, too, but those who want to finish a painting by the deadline would
prefer the fast-drying medium of acrylic paints.
Care must be taken while buying art materials like acrylic
colours. One must shop from an art material dealer, especially from who deals
in artist-grade articles. Buy only those materials which are manufactured by
well-known companies.
